Help Charles Ervin become the next
Superior Court Judge for Sierra County
Charles Ervin for Sierra County Superior Court Judge
June 8, 2010 Ballot Statement *
Protecting Sierra County with a fair, firm, even-handed and open-minded approach assures justice. A rational and practical application of the law to all cases safeguards guaranteed and valuable personal liberties. Law is more than "one size fits all." Judges must respect important family values and our children. Seniors, families, their businesses and crime victims deserve special consideration when the law allows. Citizens called for jury duty deserve flexibility when they have to travel long distances to serve in our justice system.
I would be stern with violent and repeat offenders. Rehabilitation and treatment in appropriate cases reduces crime, returns offenders to productive lives and improves community safety. Sentencing should foster community service when permitted. A creative judicial approach should be considered to help our young people who get in trouble.
I believe strongly that judges must remain free from the influence of special interests which undermine independence and neutrality of the court and politicize the office of judge. My experience and 25-year diversified legal background qualify me to serve. Vote to elect Charles Ervin as judge to help guard our justice system.

Sierra County Superior Court Judicial Candidate Charles Ervin's Perspective
I have already met many of you during the campaign, and I look forward to meeting as many more as possible as the campaign continues. I will be holding events in west and east sides of the county. Please join us if you can. I will be knocking on as many doors as I can before election day. I look forward to seeing you soon.
True justice comes from the heart. We all feel legal relief when there is a healthy court attitude. I stand for fair, firm, even-handed and open-minded justice. I don't need a permission slip to do what is right. Home-grown problem solving saves taxpayer money; the community saves time and legal expense. Modern technology can process cases faster, keep criminals accountable and promote public safety. Protection of guaranteed and valuable personal liberties is assured with a rational and practical application of the law to the special needs of each case. Law is more than "one size fits all" in our community. Legal solutions must support important family values and should benefit our children. Seniors, families and their businesses deserve special consideration when the law allows.
Our justice system must treat people with dignity. Our judges must apply the law so our citizens' lives are repaired and restored at the least cost possible. Citizens called for jury duty deserve flexibility when they have to travel long distances and give up their daily lives to be an important part of our court system.
Sierra County welcomes a judge who will listen to all of the facts and reasoning. You can feel better about your day in court when your judge is careful to allow you to present all of your case.
Thoughtful sentencing in criminal matters, like our highly-successful drug court program, reduces repeat offending and improves community safety. I believe sentencing should foster community service when permitted and that a creative approach should be used, where both possible and wise, to help our young people who get in trouble.
My 25 years of legal experience in the many different laws touching most of our lives qualifies me to serve as judge in your court. I ask for your vote to help guard our justice system and keep it healthy.
